ZONE:Tell us abit about yourself Shoenborn..who are you?
I was born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin.
I am very happily married to wife Crystal and I have one son Jakob who is 9 yrs old.
I work in my families jewelry store as a designer and setter,
The store has been in my family 100 yrs this year.
I train at home in a 600 square foot gym my wife and I built 2 yrs ago.
I enjoy doing many things out side of bodybuilding,
most of all spend time with my wife and son.

ZONE:How did you got bit by the iron bug in the first place
& how did ya get into competing?

When I was 15yrs old I lost my hair to a disease called alopecia.
It was a pretty hard thing to go through at that age.
My dad was part owner in some health clubs and he got me started
training with a local bodybuilder.
I soon had the bug and it has been a part of my life ever since.

ZONE:What is the best part of this sport?
The best part for me has been the challenge.
I love the training and even the dieting.
I love being able to push my self as far as I can go.
Also we have made some very good friends from all over the country.

ZONE:And the worst part?

Now that I have competed at the national level for 3 years I have really
seen how much gossip and backstabbing goes on.
That is why I do enjoy being able to hide away in the middle of no where
in my home gym training away so I never get involved in that part of the sport.

ZONE:What is your diet like? Both offseason & before a show?

My diet is pretty much the same all year.
The amounts may change but I eat the same foods.
I have no problem eating the same foods all year.
I mostly eat buffalo, chicken, brown rice and green beans.
I eat about 7 meals a day. I don't use a lot of supplements,
mostly whey, glutamine, amino, bcaa, and a multi.
In the offseason I'll eat a lot more sushi and I'll cheat here and there.

ZONE:And what about your training. Offseason & before a show?
My training is very basic,
Being I train at home I do not have all the machines that a full gym
would have so I do a lot a heavy free weight movements.
I don't anything fancy.
I train 5 days a week and depending on what bodyparts need to come up
I may hit them more often.

ZONE:Where do you think most people go wrong before a show?
I think that a lot of people change stuff around in their program at the last minute.
It is very rare that you hear where that works.
If it is working don't fix it.
Before the North Americans I did not change a thing from
5 weeks out to the minute I walked on stage.
I did not cut water, carbs, protein, sodium, nothing.
I did not even do cardo through the whole diet.
I kept things as basic as I could.

ZONE:Who is your bigest inspiration & rolemodell thru the years?

I believe in a higher power and that is where I believe
most of my strength comes from.
But I also draw a lot of strength from Crystal and Jake.
There are my inspiration through the years.

ZONE:Future plans?
I am taking 2006 off to spend with my family.
I also have a couple of surgeries I have to have done.
We are planning to do the 2007 north Americans,
2007 nationals and the 2008 master nationals.
