..............................................................................................
Darren started training at the age of
21...he was not a big guy.
Infact he only weighed 154lbs!
He was involved in soccer and it was suggested that he go to the gym
to increase his strength over the off-season.
He had been playing soccer for 14 years and he
was training to hopefully go professional.
Over the next few months he started to learn more about
Bodybuilding & became very interested...the rest is history!
Last year Darren had been qualified to compete
at the National Level for over 6 years but never wanted
to compete as he felt he was not ready.
But after testing the waters at the 2002 Nationals
& getting 5th in the Super Heavy's,
he felt he was now ready to step it up a notch!
This year, 2003, Darren will do his best to come in rock hard condition!
He will also have top IFBB Pro Tom Prince in his corner!
Lets rock!!

Darren at the nationals 2002
ZONE:Tell us abit about yourself Darren!
DARREN:Well I was born on Nov 23/68 in St Boniface,
Manitoba,Canada a smaller city in the Mid West.
I am the 3rd of 4 children in my family.
I have one older brother an older sister and one younger sister.
Soon after I was born we moved to Vancouver,
British Columbia on the West Coast. I have lived here since then.
I was very much into sports when I was growing up.
I played Soccer for 13 years and did very good.
I was going to actually try to go pro in soccer and that is how I got into BB.
I went to the gym to add some muscle because I was so skinny .
I got totally into Training and soon I found out about BB
and I was soon putting on muscle and here I am
140 lbs heavier and 14 years later.
ZONE:After looking at the before & after pix at your site
I must say that the transformation of your physique is nothing short of incredible!
what is your secret on your countinued improvements & all that mass thru the
years?
DARREN:I think the secret to continual improvements and
to build mass
is to be consistant in these three things.
1-Eating a good BB diet all year to put on Mass.
2-Getting enough rest so that you allow your body to recoupe.
3 Train consistently and smart all year every year.
If you follow these rules you will continue to improve year in and year out.
ZONE:What is your diet like?
DARREN:My Diet before a show is very basic.
I do not like to get to complicated so I try to keep it simple.
I have a fast Metabolism so for me I eat usually 7 meals a day
consisting of 50 gr Protein each meal around 350-400gr daily
and I will play with my carbs any where between 150 gr daily to 400 gr.
When packing on the mass I simply increase my carbs to
around 800gr daily and add in some good fats.

290lbs of beef!!
ZONE:You been into this crazy sport for a long time..
Where do you find your inspirations?
DARREN:Yes I have been training for almost 14 years now.
When I started I was 154 lbs (68kg) I am now currently 290 lbs(132kg).
I find my ispiration from my Father,
He came to Canada with nothing from Europe,
Hungary in the late 50s he has allways been a hard worker
and he has that will to succeed and to not give up on your dreams attitude..
He has also fought off cancer twice and is a true inspiration to me.
As far as bodybuiders Dorian Yates has allways inspired me with his
Blue Colllar --Blood and Guts aproach to BodyBuilding.
I love to train hard and allways have.
As far as I am concerned in the gym that is where all the hard work is done
- I also love to eat- and that is soooo important!
Tom Prince & Darren!
ZONE:I know you will get some help before this years Nationals
from IFBB pro Tom Prince...
What difference does it make with him in your corner?
Any secrets to share?
DARREN:Yes I have been working with Tom Prince since Dec
02.
With him my corner I feel as though a
huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders.
He is one of the most intelligent Pro's out there when it comes to contest prep.
This is pretty much how I approach it--Me Ahlete-- Tom Trainer.
I have complete trust in Tom that he will be able to dial me in
at my all time best this year and at a bodyweight of around 250 lbs(114kg)
at 5 ft and 10 1/2 inches(not sure what that is in cm)
I feel I have a good chance at earning my IFBB pro card.
Secrets to share?
Well if I told you then they woudn't be secrets anymore.
But seriously I am sure Tom has a few up his sleave
that he will use as we get closer to my show in Sept.
ZONE:Where do you think most people go wrong before a show?
DARREN:I think most people go wrong before a show when
they try to
complicate things to much the last week out.
Try to keep it simple --if you look good
just cut back on the water and sodium and it should be fine.
If you do not look good a week out
then plain and simple you did not diet hard enough.
ZONE:What is the worst part of the sport?
DARREN:The worst part about the sport is all the back
stabbing
and jeliously that goes on.
Also the judging can be a bit confusing at some shows.
ZONE:And the best?
DARREN:The best part about the sport to me
is the whole BB life style that I really do love.
Lifting heavy in the gym.
Going to shows and meeting people from all over the World
that share the same passion for the sport.
ZONE:Thanx Darren & good luck at the nationals!
DARREN:Thank-you & Talk to ya later!
Train Hard Brother!
